Chinese Herbal Medicine
What is Chinese herbal medicine?Chinese herbal medicine focuses on restoring balance in the body and treating the underlying pattern of disharmony that is giving rise to a particular symptom, condition, or disease. Chinese herbal formulas are usually made up of a variety of herbs, minerals, and animal extracts. Typically, there are one or two herbs in a formula that have the greatest effect on problem being treated. Other ingredients treat minor aspects of the problem, or direct the formula to specific parts of the body or are used to balance the formula. For over thousands of years, the Chinese have used herbs to treat a wide variety of diseases and conditions. Originally Chinese herbal formulas were prepared as decoctions (tangs) or sans (powdered). Today for ease of use you can find Chinese herbal formulas in capsules, tablets, granules, syrups, tinctures, powders and raw herbs ready for decoctions.
